Είμαστε στην ευχάριστη θέση να σας ανακοινώσουμε την δημιουργία της
ελληνικής κοινότητας KDE. Στην ουσία είναι μία επέκταση της ομάδας
μεταφραστών σε πλήρη κοινότητα.

Μπορείτε να έρθετε σε επικοινωνία μαζί μας με τους εξής τρόπους:

1. Το κύριο μέσο επικοινωνίας μας θα είναι η mailing list
kde-el@kde.org. Για να εγγραφείτε το μόνο που έχετε να κάνετε είναι να
στείλετε email στο kde-el-request@kde.org γράφοντας subscribe
your-email-address ως θέμα του μηνύματος.

Μέσω της mailing list θα διοργανώνονται τα διάφορα events της
κοινότητας και οι διάφορες μελλοντικές δραστηριότητες.

• in Larisa,at January 27th at 18:00 at the LinuxTeam ATEI Larisas’s Lab
• in Thessaloniki,at January 28th at 20:00 at the TheHackerspace which is located at the “kokkini klosti demeni”
• and finaly in Athens,at mid of February(more info will announce in the next few days)

This time except from the KDE SC 4.8 we also celebrate the announcement of the KDE Greek community. Actually we celebrate the union of the KDE Greek community. Our community existed in the past. We have contributors,translators and enthusiasts who helped to organized the 2 previous release parties for KDE SC 4.6,4.7 but we didn’t have a common infrastructure. It was much more difficult for us to communicate with each other and of course the Greek KDE users couldn’t find us. So we decided to have a common infrastructure. From now on we will community through the kde-el.kde.org mailing list and the kde-el channel which is hosted on freenode. Also in the next few days we will start using our sites which are the kde-el.org and the kde.gr

Our goal is to establish an active KDE community here in Greece.

In Larissa(Greece) we have a small foss academic team,the team is called “LinuxTeam” and
it happens to be one of the most active foss teams in Greece.

We had a booth at the center of the town and we were able to give to people a lot of foss stuff.
It was a very delightful experience.Did I mention that It was the first time that i joined a SFD event?

Anyways,today I am going to Thessaloniki for another Greek event,and after that i will have to study for my exams…

Due to a misunderstanding me and my brother arrived at the party two hours after it started.
So we missed the lottery of some nice KDE stuff and the Kake(we also had a KDE cake) .
Fortunately, the party didn’t end when we arrived.:)
When we arrived I saw a lot of unfamiliar faces to me.This was very glad to me because most often I am seeing the
same familiar faces.In the community wiki we were just 10 people and the cafe we were approximately 25 people.
I couldn’t believe in my eyes,I was surprised  by the number or people who attended in the event.

There were people from various distro, unrelated people with KDE/Qt and some Qt freelancers.
It was amazing to see a lot ofdifferent groups of people to be gathered there for a single purpose.:)
It was one of the few times that i felt that we were celebrating/promoting the foss and not ourselves or
our personal preferences.:)
I am definately looking forward for the next KDE event.!

This week at 20 August at Thessaloniki(Greece) we will gather at a cafe named Dolly’s Bar to make the scheduled release party.

This release party will not be like the others.We will discuss the possibility of the creation of a greek KDE community.
For me the creation of such a community is like a dream coming true.

Despite the outcome from the discussion only the fact that we will discuss it, takes  us closer to the day that a KDE greek community will be created.:)

Personally,i am looking forward to attend at this event!

I was pleased from the number of the attended people.Most of them were enough familiar with foss stuff.Of course we drank a lot of beer and have some fun in the swimming pool of the hotel.
The nice part of the weekend was that we had people who didn’t use openSUSE.
We had some discussion regarding foss and i heard a lot of different opinions,from very different point of views.
At the event we had also some presentations,I enjoyed very much the presentations of Teo ,Yiannis Chatzimixos and   Antonis Tsiapaliwkas(my bro).

Teo made a presentation for PyQt and Django. A lot of people expressed their desire to get involved with the django framework.

Yiannis made a presentation about vim.I was amazed by the possibilities of vim.If kdevelop didn’t exist i would definatly wanna try the vim.

My bro Antonis presented the Qt singals and slots.It was the identical presentation for someone who just started to programming with Qt, due to the fact that he (Antonis) explained the singals and slots and also some basic stuff of c++.

I am a presentation regarding the KDE Frameworks.In the begging of the presentation i talked about PlatForm 11 event and in the main part of my presentation i explained/presend some of the possibilities of the KDE frameworks(kdelibs).

Note that all these presentations was also workshop.
Unfortunatly there wasn’t many coding people so we were unable to make a discussion about these interesting presentations..

Anyway,i am looking forward for the next collaboration event.:)

We talked with them just for 3 hours(we couldn’t stay more,because we are not from thessaloniki) but we learned a lot…

I was a bit sad,because not everyone was able to come,but of course we will arrange a new meeup!

The purpose of the event is to make people more familiar with coding,and also to motivate them to contribute to the openSUSE el community.Personally,i am going to the event because i want to see more people contribute to foss projects and not only to the openSUSE.In the event i will make a presentation regarding the KDE frameworks.The purpose of my presentation is to make people familiar with KDE frameworks and also to learn (the people) why they should use the KDE frameworks.

Anyway,it will be a very nice experience and i am looking forward to attend at the meeting!

What is next?

I will take a look at my kdesrc-build script and  I will try to make it better and more complete.If i left satisfied from it i will send a mail at the kde-devel list to discuss if it is appropriate or not to add it to some wikipage. Also I will contribute to plasmate,I consider it a personal goal to make plasmate ready for release until Octomber. Guess which project will be released at the Octomber?:P (Answer:Plasma Active)

It’s been a while since my last blog post because i was busy enough with some coding.

Yesterday,I participated in an Greek foss event named ELLAK,ELLAK is the Greek word for foss.The ELLAK is an event which happens in parallel in three different greek cities.The three of them was Athens,Thessaloniki and Larissa.

I was participated with the Greek openSUSE community.We were able to have a booth with a lot of openSUSE and foss stuff.

Also i made a presentation,in which i presented the Greek openSUSE community and their projects.One of these projects was openSUSE medical project.I was very excited with the people that spoke with me,because 3 of them expressed their desire to help in the development of the medical project.

It was a very nice event and i enjoyed it a lot.It was one of the few times that i made a presentation,but it was a very nice experience.I am looking forward for my next presentation.;)
